Powder actuated tools (sometimes confused with power, but it’s not) are typically used as a quick method to anchor into concrete. There are a few types of these tools (Hilti, Simpson, Ramset) and there are specific safety precautions and controls that must be in place during use. Hilti has power tools, grinders, drills, and saws as well as fasteners, anchors, design and layout software and services for construction professionals.
Course overview The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), requires that any employee who uses work equipment must be adequately trained for the purposes of health and safety. The aim of this course is to train people in the skills and knowledge needed to achieve the standards of competency required to carry out the pre-use inspection and safe and correct use of powder actuated cartridge tools in the workplace. Course Objectives On completion of this course the trainee will be able to identify defects (which is the purpose of the inspection) to discover and to have a basic understanding of the safe and correct use of cartridge tools. This course will also cover the basic requirements of the: The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Personal Protective Equipment Regulations (PPE Regulations), The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH Regulations), The Control of Noise at Work Regulations and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Training Method This is a classroom based course, with assessments. Delegates will be required to, strip the cartridge tools for service. This course is suitable for users of Hilti, Spit and similar powder actuated low velocity cartridge tools.
The practical element of the training will be conducted using the customer’s equipment and it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the equipment is suitable for its intended use and is properly maintained and that all trainees are in possession of the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the type of tools they will be using. Location Classroom based at client or trainer premises with adequate room for all candidates. 240v power required for projector allowing power point presentations and training DVD’s. Large screen TV’s with HTMI connections are also acceptable.
